Materials Recycling Facility

State-
of-the-art

Sherbourne Resource Park is the most advanced MRF of its kind in the UK, harnessing a fully integrated solution that combines sorting equipment, robotics, and Artificial Intelligence. It processes the recycling of more than 1.5million residents throughout its 12,000sqm purpose-built facility, and can process up to 250,000 tonnes a year, averaging 47.5tonnes per hour.
All the recycling items from residents undergo a journey to separate them by material. Paper and card, plastics, glass, and metals. This is achieved by separating items first by size, then by dimension (2-D and 3-D), then by material before being quality control checked. Any non-recyclable items are taken out of the process and disposed of responsibly.

Technology

most advanced
facility of
its kind

Sherbourne Resource Park deploys a range of technologies including trommels, ballistics, optical sorters, robotics and AI. The fourteen optical sorters on site provide high-volume separation of materials, and alongside the eighteen AI-controlled robotic arms, and other technologies, ensure materials are separated to industry-leading purity rates of up to 99%.

The investment in technology by the eight partner councils has meant that Sherbourne is able to consistently produce high quality outputs and engage solely in UK remanufacturing markets, sending no material overseas.

Material Reuse

99%
Pure

Using the advanced technologies, recycling is separated by material and sent onwards to end destinations exclusively in the UK, where it is remanufactured back into new products.
